They have 65 days to notify you of a price change after it has happened, however it will be in the news or on this board. It's not that they keep it a secret until the 65th day.0

The Daily Mail got the year wrong...TXU Energi - formerly Eastern Energy and Norweb, and Britain's third largest gas supplier - said it could see no need for an increase.
'Our view is that wholesale prices are going to come down,' a spokesman said. 'We have no plans to put up gas prices and we have a guarantee to be cheaper than British Gas until March 2003.'
Incidentally when is the Government going to step in and stop this sharp practice? Last winter they said the electric/gas companies should be reducing their prices and still nothing has been done.0 -

This has been covered many times on this forum.
It is 65 working days i.e. 3 months.
In fact this ruling was introduced as it helps the consumer!!
Company A introduces a price rice and tell their customers about it 3 months later.
So if the customer doesn't want to stay with the company, he notifies them and then they have to charge him at the old rate until he switches(there are time limits on this)
So it is not in the company's interest to delay notification.
It is impossible to notify all customers(18 million with BG) quickly without employing extra temporary staff.(extra costs which the customer will pay for) This enables them to send out notification with the quarterly bills at the latest.
There are plenty of valid reasons to criticise all Utility companies, but this ruling(introduced by the Regulator) is not one IMO.
Besides you would need to live on a desert island not to read in the media of the increases on the day it is announced.0 -
andIt,s in the news today. The daily Mail, and it,s on the board now , because I put it there.
I think it was in the news years ago. I think google has let you down on this one.
Clues:- We guarentee to kepp our prices cheaper than BG until 2003
- TXU Energi sold out to Powegen (now Eon) a few years back.
- BG did not raise prices this year - they dropped them
- Energywatch was disbanded a year ago
- A therm costs 24p
- Managing Director of British Gas Trading, Mike Alexander (the name British Gas Trading was dropped a while back, and Phil Bentley has been MD of British Gas for a few years)
- BG supplies 70% of households - now below 50% (for gas)
