0% Purchase Cards

I've never had a credit card and am a bit confused. I had a form through for a Capital One card, which was 0% on new purchases. However, when I was reading the terms and conditions, it looked as though you started getting charged interest from the first payment you make? Is this right? Am now considering the Tesco card, but if the charge is going to apply from first repayment I won't bother!! Can someone clarify if it stays 0% for the full 12 months please?

Tesco offers new customers 0% on purchases for the first 12 months, provided that you meet the minimum repayments required (3% of your statement balance) on time each month.

Not so.

Capital One offers several credit card deals. To help you further, we would need to know whether this is CapOne Classic or one of the others.
