Did JML demonstrate loaf saving with their machine?
Bread is full of air pockets, so I'd be surprised if it could be vacuum packed really successfully. At the very least, dragging the air out might damage the structure of the bread so it wouldn't reinflate properly. Sort of like trying to reinflate a popped balloon. Maybe you're going a bit far? Squishing it to an X might be overdoing it.import this0 -
After several tried with various brands I have given up on vaccuum sealers - none of them did the job at all."Finish each day And be done with it.
You have done what you could.
Some blunders and Absurdities have crept in.
Forget them as soon as you can."

Yes on the box it states the shelf life for vacuumed bread is 8-10 months at room temperature.
eeew.. that actually sounds nasty... what would it taste like after all that time?
i know you can get those part-baked rolls and stuff that stay fresh on the shelf for ages, but i find them a bit spooky TBH.. bread isnt supposed to last 8 months at room temperature...
i think i would use the vacuum sealer like they do on the cooking shows in restaurants to make portions of food which you can reheat boil in the bag style..0 -

Can I just make it clear that I had no plans to keep the bread for anything like 8weeks nevermind 8 months.
I bake 95% of our bread myself, at the moment I have a slight problem and am a bit restricted baking wise. Additionally, I don't have great results with wholemeal bread. DH on the other hand adores wholemeal and this was(or seemed at the time) a good way of getting a bargain(two loaves for £1.20)getting me out of baking and letting DH have something he really likes.
But....... It is clearly stated on the box that bread can be vacuum sealed and that it lasts for 8-10 months. I am begining to think it may be down to the type of bread used ie wholemeal as hte white loaf did regain its shape.
I have emailed JML and will report their comments.
Thanks to everybody for all the help and advice.

I have a vacuum sealer and often use it when freezing quite successfully, but if I want to do baked goods, I freeze them before vacuuming otherwise they go very strange. My brother in law was serving in Afghanistan and I froze some cookies, vacuum sealed them and posted them to him and they were in perect condition when he got round to eating them! I also find it great for cheese.0
