Changed my mind about buying a car!

At the weekend I signed for a new car. I got a good deal and agreed to part-ex my existing car. The paperwork has been signed and I've been the vehicle reg number. I have not changed my insurance or paid anything yet for the new car.

I'm now having second thoughts over changing the at all.

Am I withing my rights to cancel the agreement and not buy the car?

Also, after I signed the paperwork the guy then stamped a 10% cancellation charge stamp onto my paperwork. He stamped it in the box where it says 'factory fitted options'. So, I dont know if the charge is for optional extras or the the car as a whole.

Thanks in advance

I would give them a ring,

I would say that although you have signed a contract to buy the car
they have breached that contract by putting in another T & C after you signed.
Was there anyone else with you who saw this.

To be honest, for that reason i wouldnt deal with the company.
    Really, really naughty.

Are they closeby, could you go in and deal with it.
Make sure someone is there with you. (even if its another salesman)

May i ask why are you haviing second thoughts.
make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.
  • i did this yesterday, with peugeot and cancelled it today which i was releived about. Thankfully it wasn't registered yet etc, so there were no costs incurred to either side and they were ok about it.

You can ask them and find out.

You certainly have no legal obligation to get out of the contract though and the stamp issue would be your word against theres

If they charge only 10% cancellation fee for a car with options you have done well as that car will need to be massively reduced now its built to a certain spec and registered to sell.
