Charged for meter after switching
When I moved into this property, I kept the supplier I had previously for my gas and electric. This was changed in January 2009 to Scottish Southern. On Saturday 26th Sepember I had a knock on my door, a bloke showed a "British Gas" I.D card and told me that because I'd switched suppliers I now had to pay £500 per meter because they are the property of British gas and not my supplier, I politely told him to go forth and multiply. Is this a normal event or a scam.?

Load of bull.
Very dodgy - if you have any details pass them to the police.
British Gas doesn't own the meters - they subcontract this out to either National Grid, United Utilities, Siemens or OnStream depending on where you live.0 -
Many thanks for that SwanJon. I'd never heard of it before.0

You may also want to contact British Gas so that they know someone is going around pretending to be from them and asking for money. They may know of others cases or this may be the 1st instance.IT Consultant in the utilities industry specialising in the retail electricity market.
