OP - It might be worth taking a peek at New Look as some of their shoes are non-leather and cheap, and modern. BUt check as they aren't all the same.

The thing about well made vegetarian shoes is that they use good breathable fabrics. As it happens I used to work in the cycling industry and inferior clothing uses leather and top end products use synthetics...these days synthetics can be way better than leather

If you buy cheaper plastic shoes then they will make you sweat a lot. This might be ok if you are looking at flip flops or open toed slip on style shoes but if you want traditional mens lace up office shoes, trainers or walking boots then you really really want them to be breathable!

The Vegetarian Shoes "Office Shoe" at £50 I have purchased a couple of times, the last bog standard leather shoes I purchased about 10 years ago were £40...so nearly on par given inflation.

In the summer I use Merrell sandals that cost £50...they aren't marketed as being vegan , but this illustrates that any good footwear costs money these days.

I use walking boots from Ethical Wears and after 7 years of constant use am only on my second pair (the original pair are now on gardening duty), the things are nigh on indestructible!

It does pain me when I pay out such a high price for shoes, but they really are value for money at the end of the day. I can be on my feet for up to 12 hours at work and that's after a 2 mile walk. When I'm on holiday it's quite easy to rack up a few miles every day as I'm car free. Cheap shoes just wouldn't be comfortable and they would end up costing me a fortune as they would need replacing regularly. I managed to wear out a pair of Converse boots in 2 weeks and they weren't exactly cheap, I now go for proper footwear over fashion shoes every time. It's much more sustainable and kinder to your feet as well as working out cheaper.

Due to the glues used - even "non leather" shoes aren't always veggie/vegan friendly.

A good mate bought a leather looking jacket from them (although it confuses me why fellow veggies would want a leather looking jacket)

They don't look that leathery but it did wear very quickly on the cuffs in just a few months - fibres were poking out of the cuffs

They do some really good shoes at Vegetarian shoes & sometimes they last much longer than leather & dont have the health downsides of leather

I do prefer the vegetarian shoes from Alternative Stores as they are much more affordable & thet sell alot more than just shoes.

Funny, I thought all shoes and jackets were vegetarian.

What I do't get is why leather is bad, cows die, they aren't immortal...use the hide.
I'd be more than happy to have a coat made out of me when I pop my clogs (non veggie clogs) ...it would do me no harm at all.

Is wool vegiie clothing I wonder?
