can someone please explain under occupancy supplements for me?

Im looking to go to Greece with DH and 2 sons next year.
DS1 will be 16 and count as an adult. DS2 will be 9.
The cost for the apartment we are looking at is £359 based on 4 adults sharing. The child price is £259.
There is an under occupancy supplement of £7 per night.

So does that mean that the child price is effectively £259 + £49 (£7 x 7 nights)?
If so some of the child places actually work out dearer - have I got this right?
Thankyou,
Skipsmum

  • Yes, some places price based on X amount of adults sharing, so if there is less than that amount of adults or mixture of adults & chldren then under occupancy is applied.

I always check the price before I commit, because as you say sometimes it is cheaper for the children to be priced as adults.
Rip off I think - they still take up one whole bed!

It might be worse - the under occupancy supplement may be £7 per adult per night

It really stems from the holiday companies insisting on advertising a price per person. If they did it on the basis that the apartment is so much a week regardless of numbers then quoted air fares/transfers per person it might be easier to understand

the three people classed as adults will be charged an extra £7 a night each not the child. the total will be about the same if you go as four adults rather than three adults and a child .child prices in self catering are a bit of a "fiddle" as what you save on the child (in most cases) you pay almost as much in under occupancy.
hope i have explained this so you understand what i mean.
  • Thankyou all.
Is it ok to book a child as an adult?
