Hi there, I'm after my first laptop since my desk top is getting really annoying. I've just moved to uni and haven't a clue what I should be looking for!
I need it for mainly the internet, word, powerpoint etc, playing music, storing photos and maybe watching the odd dvd. I'm not fussed about a web cam.
In the future I may try and get photoshop installed. I never play computer games, may be tempted by the new sims game though ha.
A the moment I use xp.
My dads buying it for me so I'm after the best price possible, like £350 ish max! I want it to last a few years though!
Thanks for any suggestions

Three options:
Dell Outlet:
http://www1.euro.dell.com/uk/en/dfo/df.aspx?refid=df&s=dfo
(click Dell Outlet - Home -> Outlet Laptops -> Open two windows, one with Dell Inspiron, the other Dell Precision (Start Shopping Now). Change the price to < 500 then click Filter Results. Optionally change memory etc.)
Argos Clearance

Dell Deals:

I'd suggest:
http://configure.euro.dell.com/dellstore/config.aspx?c=uk&cs=ukdhs1&l=en&oc=N0054502&dgc=AF&cid=5212&lid=122756&acd=db87f03961a7733a23c7c8be248fa3b0
Main specs:
Intel® Celeron Dual Core T3000
Genuine Windows Vista® Home Premium SP1 (64 BIT) - English
1 Year Limited Warranty - Collect & Return
15.6" Widescreen WXGA CCFL (1366 x 768) TFT Display with TrueLife™
4096MB 800MHz Dual Channel DDR2 SDRAM [2x2048]
250GB (5,400rpm) Serial ATA Hard Drive
DVD +/- RW Drive (read/write CD & DVD)
Price £474.00
Total savings £125.00
Total £349.00
It should be noted this comes with Vista. Microsoft have a new Operating System coming out in a months time, Windows 7, which by all accounts looks very good. Check out for free upgrades to this or consider waiting a month if you're not in a rush.0 -
I want it to last a few years though!

Just slightly over your budget, but will do the job and good service from John Lewis if anything goes wrong.0 -
Try Tesco's for Toshiba's (maybe squeeze your old man for a few more pennies for a non Celeron duel core core one
)
