Local Garage not doing their job??
Hi All,
I was wondering if you could give me advice please. A few weeks ago tootling along in my car my timing belt snapped
. So AA towed it to my local garage.
The garage told me that it would cost around £750 plus VAT. After they had stripped the engine down, they found only 8 valves (of 16) had bent and it would cost around £650 plus VAT. So I asked them to get on with it. A few days later they contacted me to say that oil was leaking after they had resealed it and they think that the Valve guides needed resealing so it would cost another £100 +VAT plus another Head Gasket! As I already owed £650 for the works undertaken I thought that I had no choice.
So I get the car back and smoke is pluming everywhere I drive, so I take it back and they say that it must be the piston rings. So having paid best part of £850 I was in a catch 22 situation. Get it done or sell it for scrap. So I asked them to get on with it at the handsome price of £450 plus VAT.
So I put this down to just cars been cars and maintenance issues, but Today 3 days after getting it back the engine management light comes on, the engine slows as if it was driving on 3 cylinders and the engine is tapping like mad.
I'm stuck on options. Do I take it back to the garage and pay for extra work? Get them to do it for free as its not right? Take it to another Garage to check it out and maybe get some comeback against the previous garage?
Any advice greatly received

what car is it? for most run of the mill stuff you could have had a recon'd unit for what you have paid so far.
take it back and complain it still isnt right. theres no point in being angry about the belt snapping, thats up to you to know about.
take it back to the garage and tell them its still not right and take it from there. it could be something simple,or it could be something they havent done right....work permit granted!0 -
The first thing you said was you are an AA member, contact them for advice etc, its what you are paying them for!;)No-one ever reads this bit anyway......
