Transporting car

Hi

I am in process of purchasing 2nd hand car up north. I am however down south. I cannot find anytime in which to get the car without having some major problems.

I have a quote for a transportation company which is fine. But I am trying to get a similar quote where a professional driver picks up said car and drives it down to me.

I dont know what the technical term is for this type of thing - professional driver brings up driving schools, van drivers etc...

Can anyone help with the terminology I need to search for?

Thanks in advance

    Try googling car delivery service.
  • Is it MOT'd? Taxed? Where in the North to where in the South? Whats your best quote so far?
But all that apart, is there a business idea here? mmmmm.

Would you be covered on your own policy (not owned by you? probably some sort of hire or reward clause? Who needs to know.)
I'd happily get the Train back lol.

  • Many thanks for the replies.

Searched Trade plate delivery (thanks emmell) and just waiting for some quotes back.

The quote for a transporter was £238 which I thought was very good. It would cost me £123 with trains and fuel etc.. and then the added babysitters and extras and a day off work as it works out with a multi change train journey to be about 13 hours all in, so I was happy with the quote.

But I shall see if the trade plate delivery is any cheaper. Fingers crossed.

    Thanks to all

  • We used shiply.com to find transport for one of our cars, which is a non-runner. You enter details of the vehicle, location and dates etc and companies provide quotes, bidding for the job Ebay-style. It's free to list and you receive quotes by email. You can then contact the company of your choice to accept a quote.
  • Shiply is good. As if you keep declining the bids they get nice and low and competetive.

However, a good company I can recommend is TP Overland. they are based in Staffs, but have drivers all over the UK
