credit card promotional rates.

I have a current issue with /mbna my credit card company. I have not heard this issue mentioned before.

I had a promotional rate applied to my card - 0% on purchases made up 31/07/09 interest free until dec 2009 statement date.
I decided to take advantage of thsi rate and used it for a few things. I also decided to renew my car insurance online 2 weeks early and paid in full on my credit card on the 31st. The issue I have is that company was not manned over friday evening and the weekend and transation was not put through till 3rd Aug. My point to MBNA is that i made the transation in good faith in the promotional period and I have no control over when the merchant puts the transaction through. I have written to MBNA and provided proof that gave card details on 31st. I was told over the phone, the will not honour promo rate. This means I am now paying interest on this one transation and it will be the last thing on the account to be paid off. I ave written to complain and am weaiting for a responce. I had a letter yesterday saying they need more time to reply and will reply by 21/10/2009. It has been a month already. Can you help Please ??

There's always a delay between making a purchase and it being posted to your account (in my experience, anywhere from one to three days...although according to reports on here it can be several months in extreme cases).

Have you checked the specific wording on the offer? It could have said "purchases posted to your account" by 31/7/09...in which case you haven't a valid complaint (although I'm not sure you have anyway if the insurer didn't actually process the transaction straight away).

Wait out the remaining 4 weeks and then, if you haven't had a satisfactory resolution, take your complaint to the Financial Ombudsman. Hopefully, with this as a possible outcome, MBNA may offer a gesture of goodwill.
