Additional ways of making money online

I've managed to make myself very hard to employ and I'm a broke 17 year old student desperately in need of more money.

I do survey's online and I work as a cleaner with my friend for 3 hours on monday for £10 (its not much but its around £6 an hour which my friend is nice enough to spilt with me as its her job not mine) But I can't find many part time jobs because I volunteer at a disabled riding center every other saturday meaning most jobs are out.

Does anyone have any other ideas as I don't like having to keep asking my parents for things when a lot of people my age can buy them themselves.

£6 an hour isn't bad my daughter works part time she is 16 almost 17 and she gets £3.53 per hour minimum wage

Dont you get EMA or anything
  • Its £6 spilt between two of us so its £3 each, and no, my household income is too high for me to get the EMA

Well you seem to be literate, so i find it pretty hard to believe you are that unemployable at only 17. Have you tried all the local supermarkets, fast food outlets etc? Have you considered not volunteering at the riding centre, even if its only for a short time, once you have your foot in the door, you may be able to change your hours?

Agreed - shops should be advertising for Christmas imminently so may be looking to take people on for afternoons and weekends.

Otherwise, maybe eBay/Amazon Marketplace/PlayTrade? Get rid of any old books/CDs/DVDs etc that you don't want. You might not make masses of money but it would still be something.

Getting a job comes first. If your volunteering is hindering you getting a job (which it most certainly would do in retail) then you need to get your priorities straight and find a job, then fit in volunteering around that.

There are tons of Xmas jobs popping up almost everywhere at the moment so you should be able to find something if you're willing to be flexible with your working days.

Firstly, don't say why you're unemployable - think about why you're EMPLOYABLE. You must have good communication skills, patience, committment etc to be doing the volunteering.
Not being available Saturdays will be a problem if you look for retail work - how about seeing if you could change your volunteering time if you really want to carry on, assuming it's a permanent centre. What about seeing if the yard has any paid work, even if its only mucking out etc?
  • I'm volunteering for two reasons, one it looks good for uni and two its a huge passion of mine to work with horses and is my chosen career path. I can't change my hours because its only open Monday to Saturday and I'm at 6th form 5 days a week so I can't work on a week day. Also once I stop volunteering I have to wait for around 6 months until I can start again. Judging from your responses I guess the only thing I can do is keep doing what I'm doing now, trying to find evening and sunday jobs - shame there aren't many :(

When are you 18? That would open up jobs such as bar work, which is usually evenings.
Have you looked into waitressing? What about your own cleaning job? You could offer your sevices as a rider/groom for horse-owners if you have those skills, although you may need insurance etc.
I can understand your position with the volunteering, but you need to decide which is more important to you for the time being - a paid job or the volunteering. Unfortunately, one has to make sacrifices in life sometimes. Sorry if this sounds a bit harsh :o
  • It doesn't sound harsh, its really nice of you to help. I'm 18 in November so not too long away, I'm hoping that I can get somewhere on a Sunday as there are quite a few Christmas jobs available. Thanks for the idea about being a rider or groom though I'll look into that, I had thought of that ages ago but thought it was a bit silly.
  • Try supermarkets and shops like boots for xmas jobs (hopefully you can work around the riding school, evening etc) also waitressing is really good, minimun wage but i used to get avaerage of £20 cash tips a night and sometimes £50!
