I went to Newcastle (Co.Down) for the weekend, popped into the Irish Souveners shop at the bridge in Newcastle for our bits and bobs. My English friend Pet asked the guy if he could buy a St. Patrick's cross flag and to my surprise the owner said the only Irish flag you'll get here is the tricolour.

I normally try to stay away from threads that could have a political perspective but Im intrigued: when did St Patrick's saltire and a NI flag become even vaguely similar?0 -

I agree it doesn't necessarily make him rude maybe just a bit ignorant
Maybe he'd not heard of the St Patricks cross flag? I know I wasn't aware there was such a flag and had to google it and don't remember seeing it before.
Having said that its a bit like going into a souvenir shop in the South of Ireland and being surprised that they don't stock red hand of ulster flagsHow does a brown cow give white milk, when it only eats green grass?0 -
Have to admit, I thought the OP was talking about the NI flag too. I've never knowingly seen a St Patrick's flag. No doubt I'll start noticing them everywhere now. Are they part of the Unionist tradition?Stercus accidit0
