What you have connected up sounds correct.

You could try isolating the problem by connecting one device at a time to the TV and trying it. eg connect just the sky box - try in turn both TV scart connectors and both scart leads - in case one is faulty. You could then try the same with the DVD (without the DVD-Sky connection).

The coax connection is for terrestial TV, and usually goes from aerial to sky box, and then from sky box to TV.
  • Edited - That connection seems OK.

If you have everything disconnected and then only connect the DVD player to the TV, do you get sound and picture?

i will try and get back to you. we are very wary of unplugging sky as the connectors have gone home a bit but will brave it and see. i think i did try it and it was fine. to be honest i have been trying and playing with it for weeks and am now at my final straw. i have forgotten what ive done and not done. i will go back and start again. i may have to get back here tomorrow night though if its ok. thanks for your help.

Hi, your SCART cable set up sounds OK. Now one by one, pull each end of each cable out and push it back in firmly from where it came.
The fact that you had sound and not picture makes me think you either have a loose connection in a cable or that the cables are not pushed in firmly to make a good link.

For instance, my DVD plays in black and white if the SCART lead is not in the TV properly.

If you still have the problem and can isolate it to one device, swap the cable to see if that fixes it or moves the problem to another device. If that happens, you have just isolated a faulty cable, so this will have to be replaced.

hello red cat, we tried doing as you said, i got new scarts, swapped scarts, pushed pulled, you name it. just the tv and dvd still only had sound and a blue screen, so today we ended up buying a hdmi lead. now i get sound and pics no problems...............but, that is going straight to tv and i (imagine) i need it to the dvd to the sky box. my husband says there is no-where to connect it to on the sky box but i dont think he is right, its just we cant see it. i just want to get everything working again and get some sky space back ! thanks again.

You will only get an HDMI connection on a Sky HD box, not on a standard Sky+ box.

Do you have anything else with a scart connection that you can test the TV with - freeview box, old VCR etc - sounds like the TV scarts have no video. They could be faulty or been reconfigured in the TV setup

hello again, i hope you are all still to try and help me. its taken me a while as its been the little ones birthday and we are trying to move so ive been busy.

anyway, the tv seems fine as ive attached another dvd player and its fine. i have taken the wharfedale dvd recorder to another tv and i can only get sound through av1, no picture still so i know its the av1 scart in the dvd player. if i attach the sky scart into av2 nothing changes, i still just get sky through ext1 on teh tv and not the dvd. i have plugged in the upstairs tv into av2 also and i dont even get sound from the dvd let alone a picture. as you can tell im not very technically minded so dont know if av2 should work or not for the dvd. we have bought an hdmi lead so can at least watch dvds on the tv but the main reason we got it is so we can record from the sky+ which is now 80% full of dora and diego (lifesavers while ironing !) and we need to get them onto disc to free up space.

im desperate for this to be resolved so id there a way round it, even if its until i get wharfedale to sort it out? thanking you all in advance

Hi again. I does sound like your DVD is faulty - if it is bad on 2 TV's in the same way, and another DVD works fine on the same TV - assuming you are using the same cables.
The only other thing I can think of is if there is a input select button on your DVD remote - if you press it, it will cycle the different inputs, and may get to display the one from your sky box.

i dont think av1 is working, like you say, doesnt even work upstairs. i just dont know what to do. i thought it was wired up ok but maybe not. we cannot get terestrial tv here so only got sky. the sky engineer put in what look like scart extenders from the bottom scart that runs to the tv. the top scart is going to the dvd av2 (was av1) but i still cant see the or put anything onto hard drive as i only get snow when it comes up ch0068 or whtaever it says. im slowly going mad !
