Will carers lose CA?

If this government gets rid of DLA, does this mean carers will lose Carers Allowance? (pitiful amount that it is) Only asking since this happened earlier this year when my sons condition was considered "cured". he is still autistic after 24 years- as I pointed out somewhat sarcastically to them it isn't something he'll grow out off!! After 2 months on appeal the tribunal agreed with me, his doctor, community nurse and psychologist. Still, it was scary and showed me that CA is very much dependent on his DLA. So short question is, how do they intend to protect our income as they say how much they appreciate and value the care we provide?

If they do that there may be a spate of carers ringing up social services and demanding assessments on the basis that they are no longer willing to care. I know a lot will carry on regardless of the cost, as they do already, but if you're existing on a low income and lose DLA and CA that makes an enormous difference. Especially if you get HRM and the dependents allowance of CA that'd be £180/week on MRC and more for HRC.

  • there are NO plans to make changes to DLA atm,the possible changes will come to AA then maybe and only maybe to DLA,there are currently proposals to give HRP to carers who care for someone over 20 hours a week. But remember carers allowance is only paid on the basis of the cared for person receiving a benefit, that may change in the future
