TV Licence Question

I had a similar message in my student handbook- we were later told it was basically the University covering its own back. At my uni, and from what friends- including those who have lived in the same hall in Aber have said, most halls security staff will deny access to Licencing people on the grounds they have no legal right to demand entry. If your daughter isnt watching tv they can't do anything- it just seems to be standard procedure to send several threatening letters out in order to get nice law-obiding citizens to cough up.0

We had a similar issue here in Leicester. One of my friends was threatened with police intervention and court action for a television he had soley for DVD's. He didn't have an aerial cable, or an aerial. There was a TV in the kitchen however which they were told one moving in was already covered by a TV licence.
When they came to my door knocking they came to the flat door. I had locked my bedroom door already. While they entered the flat we all refused to let them into our private bedrooms. They saw the TV in the kitchen which they were told was covered by the halls manager. They threatened all sorts and in the end we politely asked them to leave and told them if they didnt we would call the police ourselves for their threatening behaviour, as well as the building security.
They left after that.0 -
My daughters info has stated they also need a tv license if they take a laptop with them as TV can be watched via the a laptop now...she also has a small tv, and she now has a tv license just incase...but its madness...especially seeing as she has hardly any money and is still basically living off us til student finance pull their finger out! :mad:DEBBY :j0

She doesn't need a TV licence if she has a laptop. She needs a TV licence if she watches live TV on her laptop.0 -

You don't need a licence to have a TV. You need a licence to watch live TV. I have a TV to watch DVDs and play a games console but I don't have a TV Licence - nothing illegal there.yeah but they state its the same principal as having a tv..you need a license if you have one!
