Are banks open tomorrow (28/9) in Scotland?

As above since it's the September weekend?

As I recall, banks go by the English calendar in Scotland.
  • I know it's not a bank holiday per say but it is a traditional holiday in Scotland. Can anyone confirm 100% if the banks are open or not?

If you read the link I gave, it confirms what Lokolo posted:
    Q. Why are banks in Scotland not always closed on bank holidays?

    A. The Scottish Clearing Banks decided to harmonise the days on which Scottish banks closed with those in England and Wales from Easter 1996 onwards and are closed on Easter Monday, the last Monday in August (rather than the first) and are open for business on 2 January. The banks took the decision to harmonise with England and Wales for business reasons.

    Q. Can they do this ?

    A. Yes. It is for individual banks to decide what days they remain open. The legislation does not require banks or any other commercial enterprise to close on bank holidays. Such a requirement would run counter to the Government's policy of avoiding unnecessary regulation.

For more information on Scotland's statutory bank holidays, please contact the Scottish Executive on telephone 0131 244 5217.
  • Yes, but that doesn't confirm if they are open tomorrow. The article within the link only states they will be shut on English bank holidays- in other words, they could well be shut on certain local (i.e.- tomorrow) holidays as well.
  • Some local holidays in Scotland vary across the country and 28th September is only a holiday in a few places, like Glasgow and Aberdeen. Other places have different dates for the equivalent holiday.

So if you want to eliminate the possibility of a bank being shut on a local holiday, you might consider checking the website of the local authority for the actual location that you are concerned about and entering "holidays" in their search box.

Or phone the branch in 13 hours and find out yourself before you head on down town.

Could you go to one tomorrow and see if it's open?

I work for RBS and will be walking to work tomorrow morning :)
