Teenage son is off to New York in November, very clothes conscious. Never been before. Would love to know what makes and items are the best buys out there.

Surely it depends what you want/are into, such a vague question is gonna get some vague answers.
For instance does he like high end fashion/sportswear etc etc etc etcLive each day like its your last because one day you'll be right0 -
A generic answer is American brands, such as Tommy, Levi's etc. These are much cheaper in the US.0

Was interested to know what designer brands were a better price there , not too interested in Sportswear.Jan Grocery challenge

A lot of people have mixed feelings on this place, but i loved it! He should go to Woodbury Common while he's there as there are lots of different types of shops there, at discounted prices. I loved Guess as the prices were surprisingly cheap.0

Go to Filene's Basement, TJ Maxx and Century 21 and check out Jersey Gardens which is closer than Woodbury Common and has a Marshalls which is also good for bargains.0

Would echo the above information really in saying look at Filene's basement, Century 21 and we found Loehmans very good aswell ( saw manolo blahniks for $199)
The other thing to know is that the stock in stores can be unpredictable. You can go one day and it be naff, another day it will be amazing. Just have a good old hunt around.
Oh, there is also Burlington Coat Factory which was fabby, we got some CAT shoes there for $30 and opposite is TJ Maxx which is the same as our TK Maxx ( there is a filenes in this building aswell where I got a Stella McCartney handbag for $99.
Oh, and Daffy's aswell. Some of them are like jumble sales, but the ones down near Century 21 tend to be more civilised. They also had alot of D and G stuff in, aswell as Kipling bags.
If there is any more information you need shout and I will help as much as I can.0 -
I went to Woodbury common outlet place, it was about 2 years ago now and got some good deals. It was about $2 to £1 then but i've not really needed to go clothes shopping since then back in the uk.
Tommy H and Ralf Lauren stuff mainly, I got a nice North Face coat as well for a good price.I beep for Robins - Beep Beep
& Choo Choo for trains!!0 -
In the dedicated New York thread, there have been discussions about bargain buys, best places to shop etc etc - http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showthread.html?t=1403101
personally, I wouldn't waste time going to Woodbury Commons, unless you're going to spend a huge chunk on money, as it costs $40 to get up there, and I personally didn't find any amazing bargains on clothes while I was there.
Century 21, Macy's the usual, you will find loads of designer clothes there are good prices. Saks 5th Avenue is great for designer gear, and expensive jeans are still cheaper out there, than here, even when the exchange rate is only 1.6 ish..
