Been to a wedding fair today, having been on MSE for a while now I knew that there is always a bargain to be had, but gobsmacked at all these young couples blinding accepting the mad prices quoted at these things!!
Had to gag myself from saying 'HOW MUCH???' more than once LOL:rotfl:Ahahah got my signature removed for claiming MSE thought it was too boring :rotfl:0 -
We went to one last week and were looking at a dress on a stand, the dressmaker said prices started at £1500:eek:
It wasn't even that nice:rotfl:0 -
I have just come back from exhibiting at a wedding fair...never again:rolleyes: Thankfully I wasnt next to the chocolate fountain but instead next to a lady that makes cakes and cupcakes - she had samples of chocolate mud cake which was as light as feather and absolutely divine, her cake was nicer than the cake made by the professional wedding cake makers as theirs was heavy and didnt taste of much:eek: It was a good networking event for me though and I found myself agreeing to a breakfast meeting on Friday which starts at 7am:eek: (I am still in bed at 7am:rolleyes:) - so who says that a wedding planning job is easy? not when you have meetings at 7am it's not:eek:0

Where abouts are you? Sometimes, it depends on the location as to what price they chargeWhat's yours is mine and what's mine is mine..0 -

I went to one a few months back and thought the same
We are going to the G-Mex one in Manchester which we have to pay entrance for but it's a girly day so I don't mind, I'm only pinching ideas cos we're doing everything ourselves
The only thing I really need/want is a photographer and they are way out of my league at the mo unless we win that lottery:rotfl::heart2: 'Tied the Knot' Saturday 9th October 2010 :heart2::blushing: Member of Diet Club October 2010 Brides and Grooms :blushing:Starting Weight: 14 stone 10.8lbsCurrent Weight: 13 stone 2lbsTotal loss: 21.8lbs :j0 -
they prices are ridiculous, but it depends how brave and cheeky you can be to what discounts you can negotiate. We are buying 3 kilts and the guy has offered 10% off but i have gone back and asked for just under 20% waiting on him gettin back to me.
also everyone who has quoted us so far i have asked for the best price and not the first offered although i accepted my dress and bm dresses straight away as they already had a discount. the worst anyone can say is no !
ETA: he has replied with an offer of 15% which is fab so we are taking that. knew i was pushing it with the 20%!would love to win an ipad!

It's that magical W word where all concept of rational thought (can be on both sides) and monetary restraint goes up into thin air. Companies assume that we're all so swept over by the idea of being princesses for the day that we'll pay anything.
I'm getting photos taken my my lil bro (journalism student with all the camera kit - although he's not as good as me - he's got a very good photo-journalisty style I like) and his girlfriend's making the cake for us (have requested chocolate because well... chocolate is always A Good Idea) - neither of them have much disposable income at the moment so it's their wedding prezzies for us. I'm not a mahoosive photograph person anyhow (I'm quite good at photography which I took up because it meant I could avoid being in the firing line side of the camera), so as long as we've got something to record the day - but that's our priorities.
Think our biggest expenses will probably be the rings - I unwittingly picked an arkward shaped engagement ring and it's proving an annoyance now I want a wedding ring to go around it at a reasonable price... interestingly - it's my dear oh who's pushing the money is no object line on this one while I'm urging restraint!
On a somewhat amusing side-note about photographers... my grandad got re-married a couple of years ago and got a relative who does photography as part of his work to do the pictures - he had a few minor issues... he's a forensic photographer for the police, generally takes pictures of corpses and found taking pictures of people still moving and with a pulse a more tricky experience!Little miracle born April 2012, 33 weeks gestation and a little toughie!0
