I think people who provide a service can fall into 2 brackets. Those who do the job for the love of it and getting paid is a bonus, and those who do the job for the money because it is their business.0

im sorry but i do think that 2k is a lot for a photographer ( when compared to the rest of a wedding and the cost of other things and services involved)
thats just my opinion
i cant compare to my wedding because one of my friends is a professional photographer so she is doing the photos for us, and then giving us all photos, and i will do any editing and photoshop that is needed (as thats part of my job anyway)
so for us its all very cheap lol
oh and where do you get your photo books printed, I know of a number of places that produce lovely books for a hell of a lot less than a few hundred quid each (more like £50)
this thread wasnt supposed to pick on anyone, or the cost of any particular service, it was just to show you all the experience i had at a local fair, and how it had shocked me
i think linda is right about the different types of people, doing it for love or doing it for money, it definetly makes a huge differenceMarried on 5th March 2010still lurking on the wedding board tho :rotfl:0 -
I've got 2 lady photographers coming tomorrow evening to see us.
They are charging £300 for all pics on disc, which is all I want as I'd like to make up and display them myself. (album/picture book etc...)
I have a load of questions for them, so no doubt I'll be posting about the meeting tomorrow after they have gone!Tank fly boss walk jam nitty gritty...0 -
I think it's wonderful to have professional photos, but I also love the guest "snaps". With so much access to photo editing sites like picnick etc, you can edit your images as you like. I do, however, love the storybook albums.0

Professional photographers generally dont use £50 photobooks. We use high quality albums that will stand the test of time. These dont come cheap and will cost in excess of £200.It all works out good in the end.If it's not good, it's not the end!0 -

He's clearly not a great photographer thenI know what you are trying to say though - you feel like you are getting value for money.
For me, that' what all this boils down to - getting what you feel is value for money.
If you are just as happy with a photographer who charges £200 then why pay for one who charges £2k if you are not going to appreciate the difference enough to make the extra expense value for money in your opinion?
For what its worth, photography is one area where I want to get the best I can afford - its all I will have to rely on in 50 years time when my memory is failing me.0 -
Some photographers do price themselves out of the market though - I know when a relative got married recently it cost them less to get a photographer they'd known from being at school to travel 5 hours away, stay in a hotel overnight, do the whole prep/wedding/reception coverage thing and the like - than it cost for any of their local-based ones to do it.
For me the photos aren't a massive part of the day to be honest - I'm never going to be the world's most photogenic person (one of the reasons I took photography up as a hobby was to get to be on the nicer side of the camera and avoid being in shots), so whatever's taken I'm liable to cringe over and only ever see the flaws in. As long as I get a couple of nice shots of me and the oh that's all I'm really after... but I'm odd like that!Little miracle born April 2012, 33 weeks gestation and a little toughie!0 -

i asked where do you get them from?
i have looked at a lot of places, and seen a lot of books printed by different places and ive not seen any that cost over £200 to be printed, so wanted to know where they were from
if youd rather pm me with the details then thats fine by me
im just interested to see the difference....as most of the £50 ish ones I have seen have been very nice indeedMarried on 5th March 2010still lurking on the wedding board tho :rotfl:0 -
