Hi All!
12yrold girl wants a laptop, so no need to be hi-spec, but does need to be PINK!!
Any recommends - especially if there's 'free' internet plan that's worth having!!
All input welcomed!!

I've seen Pink and Blue ones in PC world, IF they still sell them... Dell sell pink laptops in the insprion range from £299 + £30 for the pink colour. As for the Internet, you can either connect it via wireless to your router, or you can use a dongle, neither of them are 'free', though, you wont have to pay any extra if you connect wirelessly to your current router.0

You can get pink netbooks and laptops (for example, from Laptops Direct), but do you really want to spend a couple of hundred pounds at least on a toy for a 12-y-o, which needs to be taken care of much better than most small people of that age can manage, if it's not going to be a bin-job within a few weeks?0

My kids were using a computer by the time they were 12 and as a learning "toy" it is probably far better spending on this one big ticket item ,than lots of small stuff that will only be used a couple of times.
Still you don't want to be paying an arm and a leg and there are lots of issues with what kind of sites your kid can get access to.
Have you tried the Dell outlet store (Refurbs ,Returns and scratched stock)
here is a link to the site search

You can set the colour to " Bubble gum Pink "
Cheapest I could see at the moment is over £300 ,But these are one off items and it is really a case of looking regularly ..
I would wait a month or so until windows 7 machines start coming through ..Vista is not great on budget laptops ..
Also discounts come up every month or so ..£50 off or free delivery kind of thing ..It is worth checking on Hotukdeals for these.
Make sure you leave a few quid spare to buy a nice mouse ..Nothing worse than trying to use the touch pad on a laptop
Most new laptops have wifi built in so if you already have that at home setting up the internet could not be easier ..Just log in with the password ....If not ..You may be asking your internet provider if they offer a free wireless router0 -

What a short-sighted attitude. I got my mini-Guns refurb IBM Thinkpads for last xmas (a real steal at £160 each) because learning how to use a pc is such an essential life skill, the earlier they start the better. They are both au fait with operating them, and are learning about security and how to do regular maintenance on them. Homework, research, etc., Office and internet...teach them how to look after them properly at a young age and it'll give them a head-start over many of their peers, which ain't to be sniffed at.
...oh, and mine were 10 and 7 last xmas when they had thiers
to the OP, best look for refurbished machines to keep the cost down...bigpockets.co.uk had a whole pile of coloured dells in for £210, but they seem to have sold out of them....keep looking and something will turn up......Gettin' There, Wherever There is......

Its not that we have more patience as we grow older, its just that we're too tired to care about all the pointless drama0

Would you get away with an ordinary laptop with a pink skin, for example:

If not, then Dell have pink laptops and netbooks0 -

Looks nice but only 1G of RAM for £349?
You should be looking for 2 or 3G of RAM for that price, even for a 12 year old.
The pretty colour is hiding the (lack of) quality, in my opinion.0 -

but thats a netbook, the chips an atom. So its gonna be low performance computer, rather high on the price when you an get a high spec machine for the sameSurvey earnings total 2009 £417, 2010 £875, 2011 £5740 -
