I have some puff pastry in the fridge dated 23 Sept - will it still be Ok to use and if not how would I know?
Mama read so much about the dangers of drinking alcohol and eating chocolate that she immediately gave up reading.

It'll be fine.
Does it say "best before" or "use by"?
Best before means "after that date it might not be as brilliant as we'd like, but you won't die"
Use by means "potentially dodgy stuff here .... so we're covering our backs and saying you have to USE it by this date"
Even a use by is OK the next 1-2 days if stored fine.
There's nothing really in pastry that could go off so quickly, especially if you've stored it OK.0 -
Its a Use BY and has been in fridge since I bought it. I'll try it and if you never hear from me again you'll know why!Mama read so much about the dangers of drinking alcohol and eating chocolate that she immediately gave up reading.0

I made sausage rolls on Wednesday with puff pastry use by 19th. I bought it on the 20th! Don't know how I missed that ond, but I never had time to go back to Mr T so we ate it! We were all fine. Really though, it's butter and/or veg fat and flour, how wrong can it go in a few days? It's what is inside your head that matters in life - not what's outside your windowEvery worthwhile accomplishment, big or little, has its stages of drudgery and triumph; a beginning, a struggle and a victory. - Ghandi0

i am sure i saw a report on tv recently saying they were doing away with dates on food because of all the waste. personally the downside for me is, i have a friend who passes all her food to me the second the date is up..... saves me a fortune :00

Not exactly the same thing...
But last week, whilst at my parents house, I was tidying up the cupboard, and found a few packes of pastry mix that was waaaaaaay out of date  by about 6-9 months......
Its the kind that you have to add water to.
I think my dad is looking for me to turn it into something
He is a war baby... and remembers rationing.
He wont throw owt out:cool:
But thats okay.... I seem to have inherited my nana's skill... of making use of any ingredient to make a meal  Although, I am not sure how0
