On a bike what's a mod/accessory?

I'm trying to do my bike insurance on-line and possibly through quidco.
This doesn't lend itself easily to more complex scenarios.
Virtually everyone modifies or accesorieses bikes so I'd be amazed if anyone has a factory standard version.
But is there a standard for what counts as a mod/accessory.
I've seen windscreens considered an accesory but they are fixed to the bike.
I have
1) different front sprocket - this is part of the drive system so I'd call this a mod.
2) heated grips that wrap on and are wired into the electrics
3) scottoiler - oiler that continuously drips oil onto the drive chain
4) crash bungs - sticky out bits that stop parts hitting the ground
5) fenda entender - extender mudgard
Are these accesories or mods? or do I have to call each insurer individually?

Best to really clarify this with the insurer - you just know how they like to wriggle out of things when it comes to them paying out!0

anything that is not a standard factory version from new is a modification/accessory that a "prudent underwriter" may wish to be aware of. Under "utmost good faith" it is your responsibility to declare these things especially as the insurer has been diligent in asking if there are any modifications.
You may be able to get your quote online then contact the insurer and ask how much it will cost for these things. Some insurers amy increase premium, others may simply list them or add an endorsement to your policy stating that they accept and cover/exclude these things.0 -
Number 1 is classed as a modification because it affects performance
Rest are just extra's.

I would not think any of the items listed would affect the premium and I doubt many insurers would use non disclosure to invalidate your policy.
I would not bother telling them, but for peace of mind you might want to and
I would suggest you search for best (not necessarily cheapest!) quote and then disclose those items.
PS: When changing a front sproket, I would recommend you change used chain and rear sprocket at the same time.

Not sure this is the best advice.
I believe a modification is anything that either affects the performance of your vehicle, or the appearance (making it more attractive to thieves).
It may not affect the insurance at all, or there may be an extra premium to pay, or it may be the insurer adds an extra term on the policy that says it needs to be kept locked in a garage overnight etc.
I think you need to disclose them all, just incase. Take the best quote, and then let them know. Maybe they're fine with them but at least you know you're fully covered then.0 -
I'd tell them about all except the scotoiler, especially the crash bungs as they've been known to write off bikes by twisting the frame in an accident.
I declared my heated grips but not my scotoiler.0 -
They would be unlikely to check the front sprocket in the event of an accident surely.
In hindsight, as they were on it when I got it, I've not declared crash bungs, heated grips, different end cans and different discs.
I HAVE however declared parking at my work 65 nights per year as the vehicle is kept away from my home address (strange but true, paranoia.)0 -
            Happy new bike?
Yeah love it.
I have a Ducati monster 696.
It suits me perfectly (low seat height and short reach for girls, real easy to manouveur).
In some ways I wish I'd bought the 1100. It was a little too high for me in the shop, but I know now that the factory setting for the suspension is quite hard and it gets lowered after suspension adjustments.
Thanks for all the advice.0 -
Nice bike, I have a soft spot for Ducatis, had a 748. Tried the monster but went for a Tuono instead.

That place looks familiar (Italy - spello?)
I'm sure I've been there but can't remember where it is.
Anyway I've added some mods onto ebike and the premium has come DOWN a little.
I've hazard a guess there is a discount for R&G crash protectors.0
