Hi,
There are so many talented and knowledgeable people on this board that i wondered if I might pick your brains.
My BF has had a few issues this year (his 3rd) at uni. As such, his dissertation and other essays aren't going to happen. He's thinking of applying to retake the year (which his tutor has ok'd with his situation).
My question is.......will the "top up" fees apply with his already being an existing student? In other words, will his loan need to be more next year than it has been in the last 3?
Any help much appreciated.

Hi
Im not an expert by any means, ideally talk to his uni, and they should clarify, but afaik, the top up fees of £3000 like are only for NEW students starting uni
so as long as your already in, you are only paying the lesser £1175 or whatever it is, untill your out.
Also if he is getting income assed, so your local LEA is paying that money, and not him, i don't think they will pay it again if he retakes a year.
Might also want to check if they will give him a loan, but its common practice that people fail and retakes, so cant see them not giving it.
Fingers crossed he will be OK though, and it will only be a £1175 debt
A lot, yes, but it could be a lot lot more
