Refund refused.........grrrr.........

I applied to Nationwide for a refund of charges (£134) and its been refused as according to them I am not in 'financial hardship', all because I have no arrears (apart from 1 week rent).......so basically instead of crippling myself making sure everything is being paid on time and then having to use the credit cards to live off I should have just said "Stuff it" and defaulted on everything.........grrrr

I am now living off cash and have budgeted really tightly to make sure I dont have to fall back on the credit cards again, but it makes me so angry that they can see from my SOA that we rely on WTC & CTC to make up our money, our outgoing payments on debt alone are £605+, yet we are not in financial hardship.....no not much!!! I want to swear but I don't want to get told off!!!!

Why are they being such *&^$£$^*( about such a relatively small amount of money........

I'd agree with them. However, if this was just the first charge you had incurred I would have asked them nicely if they would refund some of it as a gesture of goodwill. Is that the only charges you have had with Nationwide?

  • It was several charges a couple of years ago...........I think I might just start defaulting, then people might actually realise how much it is a struggle........we are getting by, but literally only just, we have NO spare money for any sort of emergency, when the kids come home with a letter about trips or whatever my blood runs cold cos it means I have to find that money from somewhere, I think sometimes it would be better just to go on a DMP, the CCCS budget allows a lot more money to run a household than I currently use, they recommend nearly double what I spend on food, they allow for haircuts etc which I don't.........it makes me wonder why I try so hard to pay off my debts.........

Nationwide have always been one that will only refund charges incurred since a lifestyle event, ie unemployment, loss of hours, etc, etc, which have taken money out of priorirty creditors and lead to arrears. Did they get you to complete and income and expenditure form?
