Just a thought, why not build one yourself? all you need is a Internal hard drive and a Drive Caddy. I believe this is prob cheaper than buying a already built one.0

if you need USB bus powered, you will probably get 2.5"/5400 rpm once only...they are not high speed or capacity but compact.

OR USB & FIREWIRE bus powered

Currently on promotion a 250 GB Seagate External Hard Drive for £89.99 from Maplin. Sign up for their newsletter and you will get some money off e-vouchers for different spend levels and this will reduce the cost (think there is one that you can use against this spend level). Not forgetting you get free delivery on orders over £35 (which this is)!! Go through Quidco for 5% cashback on a successful transaction. :j0

You'll probably need a laptop-type drive (not much chance of a 3.5" one being bus-powered) - try PC World - first one claims to need no external power, not mentioned for second one, but should be a possibility (may tell you on the box).

flang has the best idea, you have so much more choice making your own external HDD.
You need one of these http://www.ebuyer.co.uk/customer/products/index.html?rb=19018335951&action=c2hvd19wcm9kdWN0X3Jldmlld3M=&product_uid=79988

I currently use a Freecom 80Gb FHD-2 Pro drive which has given great service (before this I had two Lacie drives both of which failed within a few weeks). If you don't need big capacity I would defnitely recommend paying a bit more and getting one that is powered from the USB bus .
I am a great fan of external disk drives which means when I change or upgrade the computer I know all my data is secure. I currently have 5 external drives connected (ranging from 2.2Gb to 320Gb).
IvanI don't care about your first world problems; I have enough of my own!0 -
My advice is buy the biggest you can afford as you will always find the data to fill it. I have a WD 80gb which I bought from Staples I am now after a bigger one and it's not even a year old. I was looking in Dixon's yesterday and noticed that prices are really dropping eg a Toshiba 320gb for £150 (it's £139.99 on the web & I bet you can get it cheaper somewhere on line.)0

Hi --- Bus powered -- you need the laptop hard drives -- not cheap -- but work well.
Do not go with what has been said here -- the cheap ones have external power source (3.5 inch hard drives -- desktop ones) --- so please avoid them.
you can build one your self (like I have) or have it built. Mail me at ak_modi@yahoo.com for more details.

If you want USB powered I think you will be limited to 2.5 inch laptop type drives in a caddy.
Even then they can be very picky if they work or not on some computers due to the voltage drop on some USB sockets/cables.I love my spell checker, it stops me making all sorts of stupid smelling mistakes. :doh:0
