Ambrose Wilson

I am doing some paperwork for my elderly mother and was looking at her AMbrose Wilson catalogue. I wondered why she was still paying after not buying anything in the last 3 years. Anyway I realised it was mainly charges. So I wrote off for all her statements for the last 6 years. I had to write 3 times as they asked for copy of her passport twice and then lost it.
Anyway finally a large envelope of papers arrived with a covering letter saying that as a gesture of goodwill they were crediting her accoint with £300 plus to clear the balance.
Upon checking the papers it appears my Mum has paid over £600 in admin charges and £800 in PPI. Now when she opened the account in 1983 she was retired so had no need for it. Also on the papers they sent under occupation it says unknown!
I am going to pursue for the charges balance and the PPI. Any idea if I have a case?

From 1983? I'm not sure - you can give it a go but don't be surpised if it doesn't go your way. But as I said...give it a go0

Just got back from a week away working and found a letter for my Mum from Ambrose Wilson. As she is away I am allowed to deal with her post. So I opened it and they have offered her £300.00 as a without prejudice offer. As the sum taken by them is £800.00 how do I proceed to get the rest??0

Have they said why they have offered this amount?DS1 12/10/04

The letter said basically that she had an account with them since 1983 and was offered this benefit in June 1985 as an additional benefit. This was not compulsory and she could opt out at any stage.. The plan covers , redundancy, hospitilasition, sickness and death. . They changed the plan seven times and each time wrote something on the monthly statement.
She apparently qualifies for the following benefits.
1. Twice the outstanding balance to be paid if hospilitised for 14 days or more.
2. petsitting fees in the eventof an accepted hospilitisation claim for £250.00
3. Purchase protection insurance for all purchases for 5 years
4. Access to a free legal helpline.
They have apparently kept her informed about the plan during the plan with one letter in 2006 which was speceific to customers over 70. And as a long and valued customers the are offering a sum of £300.77. This reflects the premiums paid since the maximum age for life claims was reduced to 70 in January 2005.
They conform that the plan has now been cancelled and saiy that she can appeal to the FOS although as the policy took place before the FOS took juridisction over those policies so they may not be able to assist her.
How to proceed?0 -
You may want to check that the FOS cant do anything as the policy changed in Jan 2005, when they did have jurisdiction.
Other than that I hope someone else can help.DS1 12/10/04
