i have norton security installed on my laptop, but this is about to expire. before i renew it, i'd like to know if it's true that you can download a decent security system for free. if so, could a kind soul point me in the right direction?

I can't recommend AVG enough. It does all the protecting and the updating with the minimum intervention from the user.
It was ideal for my Mum, who knows very little about computers and needed something on her computer that would do all the work in the background without her having to think or worry about it.0 -
AVG is just the virus detector also consider Adaware, SPyBot, Windows Defender, WinPatrol, Hijack This, ZoneAlarm for other parts of your security.
I think the biggest problem you will have is getting rid of Norton .. it can be a real pain

Your right Ivan.
I forgot to mention the others. I too have Adaware, Spybot, Microsoft Antispyware, Sygate Firewall, Ewido and I use Hijack this to problemsolve.
Ivan is right again. ( I must be a member of the Ivanopinion fan club.:D ) Norton is a real pain to get rid of.£2 Coins Savings Club 2012 is £4

As the others have said AVG is way ahead. I had Norton, it expired, i didnt renew straight away and basically my Internet was useless. Internet banking wouldnt work, emails wouldnt open. I uninstalled Norton, finally as it took ages and lots of hassle. When i did get rid of it every problem i had with the net vanished. Lots of problems with Norton0

Interesting to see you use Ewido .. how do you find it? I had it for a while but it seemed very resource hungry so I removed it .. has anybody else had this problem?Rikki wrote:Your right Ivan.
