Not through a router, no - she plugs a cable in to access the internet.Don't judge people on they way they look, the way they speak or what they're called because they can't help that.

Work giving a DNS flush a try:
Tell her to click on start, then run then type in "ipconfig /flushdns" without the quotes.0 -
Oh, but it's not me who has the problem!;):D
The OP's gone off line now, so we'll not get any answers til tomorrow at least!
Sorry, MG, mistook you for the OP!
Does your daughter plug the cable directly into a wall, or into some sort of box? If the latter, do as zenmaster suggests and get her to power it off/on.0 -
possibly the proxy settings are not set correctly?
if the university doesn't have a proxy, then you do not need to worry about the proxy settings. if you don't know the correct settings, i'm sure that tech support will give be able to help.0 -
Guys
Just wanted to say thanks for your all your help - it turns out that there was a glitch with the uni's network and no-one could log on. However DD did managed to wipe her graphics driver in an attempt to get on the net!Don't judge people on they way they look, the way they speak or what they're called because they can't help that.

Have kind of fixed the graphic card driver issue - she remembered part of the program name and I managed to narrow it down to 11 choices and we uploaded one which worked OK.
The good news is that she has a tech support contract (although only Mon -Fri) so she is going to give them a call.
Thanks again for everyone's help - at least we know her computer is malware free after running the recommended programs!Don't judge people on they way they look, the way they speak or what they're called because they can't help that.
