(When we moved in the readings were Day 90172, Night 80873) I assume you submitted these readings to the energy company?

    August 2008
    Actual Day 90303 (131 units)
    Actual Night 80975 (102 units)
    £28.80

    October bill is missing, but according to November bill readings were;
    Estimated Day 81089
    Estimated Night 90557
Now you've got them the opposite way around

    February 2009
    Actual Day 81243 (260 units)
    Actual Night 90817 (154 units)
    £71.04

    May 2009
    Estimated Day 91015 (198 units)
    Estimated Night 81359 (116 units)
    £53.57
    They've switched back again

    August 2009
    Actual Day 95180 (4165 units)
    Actual Night 83670 (2311 units)

First off, I think you need to have a look at your bills, post the correct readings as you seem to have your day and night readings muddled up and then let us know what tariff you're on.

You can hardly be surprised by peoples opinions on here.... you did ask for them

Also - I have just bought a 2 bed 1979 end terrace townhouse with electric heating and was told to expect the electric bill to be on average £80 per month.

Yet another... I blame everyone thread and when the OP gets told what she dont want to hear never comes again.

    Sheesh.
  • I think this is a case of checking your bills against your meter readings when received. Regardless of what it says on the bill, allowing estimate readings to continue will generate false billing, which will ultimately catch up when a real one is taken. I suspect this is whats happened. I don't think you can back track your bills if your current reading is correct. You just have to pay it and keep an eye on your future usage and readings.

I know this doesn't quite help you in your situation, but unless SE has actually messed up the billing on their part you can't really do anything about it. Estimate readings are a fact of life with suppliers that unless they have access to your property or you tell them otherwise, they can only gauge your usage based on previous billing. Which in your case, is probably based on previous occupants of the property.

I would suggest you check all your electrical appliances to ensure none is left in a permanent state which may have contributed to your extra usage. Check you storage heater switch isn't left on. I found out to my horror how much storage heaters take to heat up by electric. I would also suggest getting off the Economy 7 tariff, if you use very little electricity during late nights. Our house was previously on this tariff, and the day rate were much higher then normal, as we usual use more during the day than night. I can't imagine how Economy 7 benefits anyone unless they run a heater on every night or do the washing at night. Which for a town house would annoy the neighbours, but thats just me :)

Good luck with your enquiries, and hope it all gets sorted out.
