Can I cap off my external Stench pipe??

Could anybody please advise me on weather I can cap off my external soil pipe??

I have an end of terrace house and it seems to have 2 stench pipes. One at each corner of the rear of the property.

We are planning on putting a conservatory on the back and one of the pipes will interfere with the roof!! Hence the question of capping it at ground level?

We know we need at least one and plan on keeping the one outside the bathroom window but plan on capping the one at the other end. Not really sure why we have 2 when all the rest of the properties seem to have 1 for every 2 houses??

So need to know if we can do it??

Thanks for reading and any help would be gratefully received.

a photo would be nice. if you only have one WC, im not sure why you have two pipes?
my gut reaction is to cap it off anyways.
    Get some gorm.
  • We are just exchanging contracts so a photo won't be possible just yet! Soz

Yes we only have one toilet. When I do get a picture I will post.

    Thank You anyway.
  • Not sure but I don't think you can cut and seal them completely as this can interfere with the flushing of toilets etc (something to do with negative air pressure and toilets not flushing if it's sealed)
  • Being end of terrace it might be a pipe from the main sewer for ventilation. Can't your solicitor determine why it is there before you exchange?

The Council wouldn't take too kindly if you block it off and it belongs to them albeit attached to your house.
  • I have built several conservatories whth a soil pipe going through the roof.
When it's all boxed in it doesn't look bad.

Good advice. It's really important to get things like this sorted out before you buy a house.

There shouldn't be any problem with removing the one that is at the lowest end of the sewer run as any gas build up will vent thru to the higher one, you will need to check what way the sewer is running.
