Npower never again

Options
Well N power we had a large bill ie £300 anyway i never paid it as soon as i got the bill as i was away on holiday, on my return i had a letter saying pay up or we are sending debt collectors to your house a little over the top i thought. Anyway i contacted them and explained "well you should have asked for the bill before you went on holiday and paid it before you went " in your dreams mate i am selfemployed and nobody pays me in advance. Anyway i asked for an xtra week to pay she said "cant do that , but you can pay on a monthly basis and you will not have to pay all at once and you can pay by card at any paypoint it costs no xtra" sounded good to me so i said okay . 1st payment was due 15th augast i paid on the 10th 2nd payment was due on the 15th sept i paid on the 17 th ok i forgot anyway i paid it. Today i had a letter saying i owed two payments mmmmmmmmm say's i and gave them a ring the lady said "you owe 2 payments" "i dont said i" and gave the dateds i paid .Well she said you recieved the letter because you paid on the wrong date?????????? what do you meen well you paid one early and one late your supposed to pay on the 15th , "well i said it will not happen again but i do not want any of these silly letters" her reply" "cant stop them computor sends them out " "well i said stop them " "well she said perhaps you should pay your bills and it wouldnt happen" "i do i said" "if you did she said you wouldn't be paying it like this in a debt management scheme". Now i was getting annoyed with this moronic oik "i said i was unaware i was in a debt repayment scheme with NPOWER i was told it was just a way of paying your bill off and i had offered to pay the lot in 5 days .
Well she said we have 9 million other customers who like the way we do things  i then said i am sorry but i cant talk to you any longer as i am struggling to converse with an idiot and hung up.
Anyway i am the numpty because the repayment ws a way to keep me with them nothing to do with we cant wait 5 days for payment, so i will not pay utilitie bills before i go on holiday why should i pay them early in business a month to pay or be paid is the norm .
So i went to a paypoint and paid all off and will now LOOK for a better provider . END OF ANOTHR RANT

  • If you can afford to go on holiday - surely you can afford a utility bill.
  • Sounds unlikely, why have you not complained about the person with whom you had the conversation with?

surely you must be a troll with grammar like that. And as for the comment "nobody pays me in advance", err you aren't billed until the end of the quarter so it was for power you had already used...
  • I've just recieved a bill from Npower and they inform me that my direct debit payments will go up from £16 a month to £55 - this is based on my predicted useage for the next six months - so yes N power to expect you to pay for something you haven't yet used!. Does anyone know if they are allowed to do this?, after all you wouldn't pay in advance for an MOT on the basis that it might need certian work done!

    Welcome to the forum.

You are quite at liberty to cancel your Direct Debit and pay the exact amount for each quarterly bill - in arrears.

You will of course lose your Direct Debit discount.

The whole point of the Direct Debit scheme is that the supplier estimates your consumption over a period of a year and bases monthly payments on that estimate.

With new accounts it often transpires that the original estimate was wrong and they revise their estimate.

The discount you get for paying by DD is far more than any lost interest on your money.

If you can convince them that the DD increase is unreasonable, it will normally be reduced.

    /QUOTE]

I too have had a bill from Npower to increase my duel fuel pyts from £91/month to £113/month. I usually get my yearly review in Sept, last year it was to put my DD up to £91/month. I have finished the year in credit - £28.91 electric and £54.76 gas, but they have only estimated the usage for 6 months this time instead of a year.

I have rung them and they confirmed that it will mean that whilst I will end the winter 6 months without debt, I will be paying over the odds for the summer 6 months and they may review the pymts in March? I have requested they keep the pyts to the original pyts (£91/month), they said they would but I'm not convinced, it was my second call to them this morning, it wasn't done on the previous call!

Just wondered if anyone else has had the same problem - I thought they were supposed to average it all out over a year. I've been with them for the last 5 years and they have always averaged over a year in Sept - don't understand the change now?
