London Energy, Nectar registration help.
Basicially, I 've just switch from British Gas (G and E) to London Energy (Dual fuel direct debit) because it was cheaper. But the Nector registration is confusing me.
I've read that by registering my nectar card for points, the terms and condition say "Nectar points on these payment options are instead of, and not in addition to, any existing incentives that you may currently be receiving on these payment options."
The nectar points I could earn is 3200 on the first year and 2800 thereafter. I've always treated 1 point as 1p, so money wise it's £32 the first year and £28 thereafter.
https://www.edfenergy.com/nectarforhome/london-energy/showUserLookup.do
The incentives/discounts, I have are
Dual fuel discount £25.20
Direct Debit discount £25.20
Total per year = £50.40
http://www.edfenergy.com/psc/london-energy/showAddressLookup.do?brand=london-energy&redirect=psc
Basicially, I feel that the money saving is way better (about £20 better) than nectar points. But I could be wrong which is why I'm asking for help if I should register or not?
Are nector points worth more than 1p (which is my own assumption)?
I don't really use nectar points, only collect, but should I bother by forfeiting the money discounts? (I could have the money and (in theory) spend it to get nector points.)
Any help would be grateful
Peace.

Did you switch to a standard London Energy tariff or the London Energy Online tariff?
I'm on an online tariff which is a lot cheaper than the standard tariff but doesn't mention discounts for dual fuel, DD etc. Basically you have to have dual fuel and pay by DD to have the online tariff.
With this tariff I have registered my Nectar card.0 -
Yeah I'm on the online tarriff, I registered through energyhelpline.
I saw these discounts on the Information/welcome booklet that London energy sent me.
Does that mean that the discounts for dual fuel, DD have already been calculated in the online tariff?
Or even better, does it mean that I could get an extra money OR nectar points saving on top of the online tariff?
I also saw that you can get more nectar points be submiting meter readings.0 -
I think you will find that 2 nectar points = 1p and I am with EDF (London Energy) and get Nectar points, discounts for my own readings and sending them in online, direct debit discount ............0
-
Yes - agree with Jem16. The DD benefit is implicit in the lower charges for the Online tariff.
I'm on that and the Nectar points I get apply to sign up / loyalty and submitting your own meter readings.
The FAQ on Nectar points within the LE web site suggest (but I can't check without doing it) that you can choose your options when registering your Nectar card? So you could get the registration / meter read (assume you can do that on their Standard tariff?) points but opt out of the DD. Which as you correctly say - represents a loss in value terms. If you want to test the depth of the water .........don't use both feet !0 -

Go here and register for MyAccount.

As MikeYorks says you will get Nectar points for sign up, loyalty(basically staying with them) and Read/Reduce/Reward(basically reading your own meter, trying to reduce your consumption). They send you an email reminding you to read your meter within 14 days to get your points.
As far as I'm aware your discounts for dual fuel & DD are already in your tariff as you have to do this to get this tariff.0 -

Yes, as implied in my previous post, I agree with that. But it's one of those irritating things where you know the answer ... and decide to check! If only to provide a helpful link.
Having done so - I'm no wiser - just more irritated. But I'm convinced the discounts are embedded in the tariff - despite I can't find specific evidence on the LE site. Which is very poor on the subject of their tariffs. But, then again, I knew about the 'My Account' facility from when I was making the switch - and you can't find that on their site either. I had to ring them and they Emailed me the link.
I know their site is a bit embryonic - but do notice they've added a lot of stuff in the last few months. I strongly suspect the bit about Nectar points being in lieu of the DD discount is also a recent addition. And I'm far from convinced that actually applies to their online tariff.
But would suggest the OP tries it - and opts out if the Nectar facility doesn't offer the option of signing up for all except the DD points. If you want to test the depth of the water .........don't use both feet !0 -
Thanks for everyones help.
Also, will I only get my account numbers when my first bill arrives?
I've only got an info pack, with a copy of the contract, and a letter each about the date when each energy service will change over. My services have only just changed over, but the paper work I've received have no gas or electricity account number.
I'm guessing that I've got to wait before I can register.0 -
I got the account number for my electricity account when they wrote to me with the date of the changeover. Strangely enough when they wrote to me about my gas account, it didn't contain an account number but I knew it by that time as Customer Services had given me it when I phoned in my final meter reading for BG.
If you phone CS they will give you both account numbers and then you can register.0 -

I think the main problem with info on the online tariff is that it isn't available from anywhere but the comparison sites. Therefore all info on Nectar on the London Energy site assumes the standard tariff.
I seem to remember from signing up and registering my Nectar card that it would only allow me to sign up to those parts that were applicable. It certainly didn't make my tariff go higher by registering for Nectar points.0 -
Working from memory - they gave me those when I phoned to get the 'My Account' link.
Just had a glance at my paperwork. And the first written evidence was on the Direct Debit confirmation they sent me. Seem to remember there was a DD mandate in the info pack / contract - but it was already completed (by them) from the online info I had given. So I didn't bother sending it back, as it was clear the Mandate was implicit from the online sign up. Got the DD confirmation shortly afterwards (for the Elec - but had to ring them after 10 days re the Gas one. Which they had set up on their system - but not initiated to my Bank)
Final point on the DD - watch the dates they set up. They ask you which date you want, confirm it in the Contract - and then set mine up for 5 days earlier! But they did correct it as soon as it was pointed out.If you want to test the depth of the water .........don't use both feet !0
