Netgear DG834G Router Problem

Options
I have used this router before, but decided to go with T-Mobile Broadband hoping to be able to get rid of my landline, this did'nt work out as all I could usually get was dial-up speed, I managed to cancel the contract with T-Mobile, in the meantime I cancelled my contract for my landline, but because of the cr-p mobile broadband I ended up going back to having a landline, they supplied me with a Thomson SG5 Speedtouch Modem - I am hardwired into this but would now like to go back to wireless using the router, however the last time it was used the passwords/ security features were all changed from the default settings, I've tried to set it up again but it won't let me do it.

How do I get it to work again as I can't remember the new passwords/security parameters that I used, I think I really need to start again.

Can someone explain in dummies terms how to do it so I can go wireless again.

Thanks for any help

If you can't remember the wireless passwords you need to connect to the wireless router via the cable and then go into the router configuration page and set new passwords in there. You can access the router configuration by going to My Computer > My Network Places and clicking on the router there. If a password is required to access the router configuration page, and you don't know it, and it has been changed from the default, then you probably need to buy a new router.

Sorry, BTW I'm running the dreaded Vista, if that makes any difference?

the admin pages are usually @ http://192.168.0.1 or https://www.routerlogin.com.

the default username is admin / password: password

gaming guy the default username and password have been changed, as have the security features and the code!!(probably wrong word) ie the last one was changed to a 64 string randomly generated one.

I guess this isn't going to be easy or even possible, or am I wrong?

The link that I gave earlier describes how to reset the router to its default settings.

Yeah, do the full reset as described in the link in post 3. You'll then be able to start from scratch.

Forget all that - see my earlier link or the quote below, if you can't bother reading it:
Thankfully a kind soul on Netgear Forums had this solution: Unplug the RJ11 (phone line connection) and then hold down the reset button for 10 seconds. That worked for me and all the router's settings were erased, including the username and password, so we were good to go again.

Remember to have your ADSL username and password handy as you will need these to be able to access the internet again afterwards, and that any other settings like port forwarding will be lost.

Sorry Baldur I did'nt ignore it I tried the link, do I use the cable from the phone line jack direct to the router and not hardwire it (using the patch cable) - as i am at the mo with the speedtouch and do the above, unplug RJ11 and then reset button for 10 secs
