Shabby Chic/Vintage style wedding

Anyone else having a shabby chic/vintage style weddding? So far I've thought of vintage tea cup candles, flowers in vintage teapots/jugs, bunting, cupcakes in cute cake cases and spotty invites. For the female favours I'm going to sew some lavender hearts in Cath Kidston fabric. The men will get chocs in a plan favour box with CK style paper wrapped around it.

My dress is vintage style lace and pearl beading from Phase Eight. No idea for the bridesmaids but will probably be in pastel colours as the wedding is on the first day of spring.

Is there anything else I haven't thought of? Do you think my ideas are any good or a bit OTT?

Its a lovely idea..there are companies who hire out vintage crockery too.
  • Thanks Horace, I've heard of companies doing that but I think I'll stick to the plain white stuff the hotel has. I got the the old cups and teapots I have for the table decorations from the car boot sale! Also, in my hair I'm having a diamonte haircomb made by my friend using old diamonte brooches from the car boot for about a quid each. Was great fun rummaging around for treasures.

Had thought of using nice old cake stands but I'm going to have one big one for the cupcakes.

I like that idea, are you looking at a 50's style theme (just thinking CK is quite 50's) :)
:rotfl:Ahahah got my signature removed for claiming MSE thought it was too boring :rotfl:
  • Not really the 50s but just old. A bit of a mix and match with whatever I can find, lol. I'm not sure on a colour theme but as it will be early spring, a nice mix of pastel shades.

Oh, that does sound nice! You seem to have thought it out quite well already!

  • We were thinking art deco, for my friends wedding, I am hoping we still are, beads, feathers, lace, etc! I was very excited. Although now she is looking at yellow, purple and silver for colours, not sure how that will work. We are going to pick the dress first and see what happens.

    Hello,
We are having a 1950's style wedding, and have made a blog which we put all of our finds on. Got loads of bits from car boots and Etsy is a great site for chic style items.
If you click on the wedding date on our signature, it takes you to our blog :)

I'm having a 1950s themed wedding also :) My dress is from Unique Vintage and I got my bridesmaids dresses from Vivenne of Holloway.

Crldnll - I've had my heart set on thoese Westwood shoes since the first minute I saw them!!! they are absolutely perfect for my theme and colour scheme.. but I don't think I'm going to fit my horrible boat feet into them :(

Like you've I've made some china tea cup candles, and instead of flowers I'm going to have a brooch bouqet, the button holes will also be old brooches. I've designed our invitations on a cath kidston theme also, not sure what I'm doing about favours yet, but I was thinking of home-made jam in little pots like this

We're going to be having a vintage typewriter as a guest book, and a 'photobooth' area with loads of old cameras, so people can just pick them up and take a couple of photos. My friend who's doing the photography has some fabulous old film cameras, and I think we're going to be having a cine8 film made of the day as well.

Etsy is a great source for vintage items. I've made a wedding blog as well where I post up images and links that I've found inspirational http://theweddingplanner.tumblr.com/ you can have a look and see if anything helps.

Oh and also, if you're anywhere near Leeds/Harrogate there is a vintage wedding fair being held on the 14th February http://www.discovervintage.co.uk/TheVintageWeddingFair.html

  • My girlfriend just imported a vintage wedding dress from the states. I'll try and find the site [without looking at the dress itself :)]
