Now...if anyone's got any recipes on actual FOOD one can do with sloes - all contributions welcome......

Cheese & Potato (and onion) pie at its easiest is:
Mash some spuds as usual
Grate up half of that quantity (by volume) of any cheese (strnger the better)
If you're putting onion in, then just slice onions and fry them just a bit (not brown)
Mix the two/three items together. Stick into an ovenproof dish, sprinkle a bit more cheese on top, bake at the usual temp (say 200 degrees) until the top's brown and bubbly and lovely.
Spoon out onto a plate. Scoff.
Go back for seconds.
Then thirds.
Once made, you can then cool any of it down and stick it in the fridge (covered) and use it up to 2-3 days in the future by nuking it.0 -
This sounds quite good - the spanish do a similar thing with quinces. It sounds a bit like a jam recipe but is in fact quite a bit firmer.

Hmmm....now that could be a promising base to work from...thinks maybe sloes stewed up with a bitta honey and make a pudding based on that recipe....

cheese and potato pie also freezes really well - just dont do the final bake in oven!0
