tapes to disk

have a sony dcr-hc51e digital video camcorder. i have windows moviemaker on my pc .when i try to connect my camcorder to moviemaker to put tapes onto a disk it comes up with a message saying import video could not find compatible digital video device.verify that the digital video device is properly connected & turned on.i have done all these things .connecting camcorder to pc with a firewire cable.any help

Try turning off pc but have camcord connected and turned on then reboot.
Can you use anything else (ie external hd) via firewire?
Also try reinstalling firewire card driver.
Check thro menu on Sony.0
