Fakes and Forgeries

How about getting Ebay to have a check box on every listing that says "I confirm that this listing is neither a fake or a forgery" or something similar to that. That way there would be no misunderstanding about what you were buying and make the refund/chargeback/strike process so much easier.

How would that work though? If sellers are selling fakes then they know they shouldn't so how would another tick box stop them?
There is actually something already in force in certain categories that reminds people before they list that forgeries are not allowed and asking them if they are sure the item they have is real, looking through the listings it is obvious though that some sellers still say yes.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. I agree with Soo. I list the odd old Microsoft Operating System CD / floppy disk set and there are warnings at the bottom on the final screen before listing that by clicking list I am guaranteeing it is genuine. They always are from me, but if a scammer wanted to ignore this, they do and you can't do anything about it sadly.0

i think its a good idea - making the seller confirm that what they are selling is genuine, therefore they dont have a leg to stand on if the buyer then realises its a fake
having said that - would the buyer have to prove it was then fake?
what if its a good copy?
what if the seller didnt realise it was fake?
aarrgghhh what a can of worms :eek:0 -
sunflower, the situation is exactly how you describe it now, which is why having an extra tick box wouldn't make a difference. Sellers are expected to abide by the laws of the country, so in the uk that is no selling pirate or fake goods. If a buyer receives fake goods very often paypal will find in his favour without the buyer even proving they are fake in certain categories.
If a seller is going to break the law then I'm sure a tick box won't stop them either.

Even with a tick box sellers could just act stupid and say to the best of their knowledge the goods are genuine and the are sold in good faith, it's all about morals and scammers have none so the extra box for confirming if the goods are genuine would not work in my opinion and sellers could justopen a new account and start trading again0
