Npower and night time rate during the day!
Options
I rang Npower end of August as i had credit on my account which i wanted back, so i gave them meter readings and a couple of days later they called me saying i had credit of £543.12. Whoohoo! i thought, it would take about 2 weeks for a cheque to be issued as it was over £500 (fair enough). Have Just got off the phone from Npower (6th phone call in the space of a month) to be told that it looks like my New meters which were put in about 2 years ago have been set up wrong and that the day and night settings are incorrect.
Basically they asked me to do 2 readings 2 hours apart so they could check the amount i was using and which rate was progressing. Did that for the second time today at 11.35 and 13.35 rate 2 moved on by 1 unit rate 1 stayed as it was.
Npower are now telling me that they have to do a manual rebilling of my account which could take 4weeks!!! This not only means more waiting but that i could well be out of pocket through no fault of my own.
I don't see why i should pay for their mistake (something which should have been picked up on the first time i gave them a reading after the meteres were installed). Question is where do i stand? Do i refuse to pay the difference if it turns out my balance is less that £543.12 credit or do i just pay it and take what's left (if there is anything)?

Although transposing the day and night readings seems to be fairly common, I am not sure I understand the rest of your post.
If you gave them the meter readings for the first time(after the meters were installed' why are Npower at fault? How should they have 'picked it up'
Unless I have missed something, from what you have stated, you were at fault! Did you not check your bills over the 2 years since the meter was fitted?
However even if Npower are at fault, the bottom line is that you have used the electricity and it is reasonable that you pay. Had it been the other way around, you would have expected a rebate.
I would wait and see what the new bill states. As it has been going on for 2 years, instead of a credit balance, you might find yourself owing npower money.0 -
i see what you're saying and to be honest i have never really understood these bills and everyone i've asked to look at them has said they are very confusing.
What i do not understand is Npower have been reciving my meter readings from me over these last 2 years and before the new meters were installed and yet they didn't notice that there was anything wrong before now, not since i asked for the credit on my account. It is their business to issue the bills and work out the cost of units and so on and as a customer i have put my trust in them that they would see if there may be a problem.0
