Phones4u insurance - "No, I just want to cancel please!"

Options
These people are a joke! I accept that it is their job to persuade you to keep the insurance, and the call centre people are just doing what they are told to do, but they really shouldn't be allowed to make it so difficult. I made it clear from the start of the call that I just wanted to cancel, and I'd heard all the arguments, and had given it full consideration, but I still had to ask about 10 times "I'd just like to cancel the policy please".

It's really making me think twice about buying anything from phones4u ever again. If you sign up to a contract in the shop, don't take out the insurance thinking "oh I can just cancel it later anyway" because it won't be easy. Even more annoying that the only number is an 0844 one... Rant over.

I had the same experience about eight years ago. I have not bought anything from them since.
  • I used to work there, for my sins!

You want to cancel the insurance - simple - tell your bank to cancel the direct debit - cancelled!!!

Wouldn't that presumably be followed by a phone call saying "There appears to have been a problem with your payment this month.....oh you want to cancel?"?
    Squirrel!
If I tell you who I work for, I'm not allowed to help you. If I don't say, then I can help you with questions and fixing products. Regardless, there's still no secret EU law.

Not in my case. I just cancelled my DD for the insurance and all I got was a text message warning me that my phone wasn't insured any more and to call them if I wanted. I didn't want! lol (This was about 2001, though).
Are the words 'I have a cunning plan' marching with ill-deserved confidence in the direction of this conversation?

I see what your mistake was there:

Going to phones4u in the first place!
  • I use Dial a phone and my insurance came with Phones 4 U. I canceled the insurance by DD as I don't need it, our phones are covered on the house insurance which costs less. They sent me at least 15 text messages asking me to call which eventually I did after receiving a letter in the post. All I said was I don't want the insurance and I no problems trying to cancel.

It seems the way to go is to cancel the DD first.
Wow, I got 3 *, when did that happen :j:T:p
It is not illegal to open another persons mail unless you intend to commit fraud - this is frequently incorrectly posted:)
    I live in my head - I find it's safer there:p
