Successfully claimed back £1000 from halifax in bank charges, still more to come

I thought I would post an update to cheer myself up. As I have just had a depressing encounter with a bus?!?!? HAving waited twenty minutes with my baby and toddler the bus took one look at my buggy and drove right past me. Cue one very strongly worded letter of complaint.

    GOOD THINGS
I have opened an A + L current account and got £50 cash back through quidco. Also looked on the referrers board and earned another £90 in referrals for that account.

Done some DVD tarting and earned money through quidco for that!:D

Me and OH have started to use pigsback and both nearly have a tenner each in vouchers.:T

Changed phone suppliers and now PAYG for one mobile.:T
Half price sky subscription for three months.:D

Started to use the freebies board and now my postman hates me lol:rotfl:

Paid off a few of my smaller bills :T

Successfully claimed nearly £1000 back from halifax in unfair bank charges

    BAD THINGS
N Power have completely F****** up my bill and they are currently investigating.

I am still claiming unfair bank charges back from Abbey, Halifax Credit Card and my old car finance company. Hopefully I will be able to update this again soon and move this to the good bit.

Still not got the hang of the MS old style. Although I am now armed and dangerous with my stardrops and microfibre cloths!

I am going to use this thread to keep myself updated and would love any comments or help along the way but if not it helps me to keep on track.

Thanks everyone for the great advice that has helped me so far.

    Long may it live

No not long may it live, quite the opposite :rotfl: the sooner we get to the end the better LOL

Sounds like you are doing well? Are you still having AOL then, only there are much cheaper providers ?
 Well aint funny how its the little things in life that mean the most? Not where you live, the car you drive or the price tag on your clothes.
Theres no dollar sign on piece of mind
    This Ive come to know...
So if you agree have a drink with me, raise your glasses for a toast
  • I still have aol because my oh wants to keep his e mail address

He has loads of stuff that he has registered (games and things like that)
and apparently its too hard to change them all

Hiya, things are going pretty well.
I would kick your oh !!! to change his email address, and tell him if he signs up for anymore of these use hotmail or similar, a generic one that can be accessed from any computer.
Bit of inconvenience saves you 25 quid.

Hey! Well done on the changes since you started this thread, you're already doing well.
I would suggest that (after your 3 months half price deal) cutting down the package of sky as opposed to dropping it altogether would be much better if you wanted to save a bit of money. The basic is only about £15/month and you can always put it back up again.
There are literally LOADS of combined packages you can get for landline/internet/cable etc with people like NTL so i'd look into that too, might save you a bit.
I also saw an advert last night that said if you were an orange contract customer you can get broadband free for the life of the contract so i'd look at that too. If you go to a phone shop that isnt stuck on one network (eg phones 4 u, the link) they can probably buy you out of your vodafone contract for a new orange one which (if you can afford it) will give you a new handset, a discount for the first few months on line rental/calls/texts etc AND possibly that free broadband deal. If you did that you could then sell your old handset on envirofone and get some money for it being recycled too!!
    Good luck xxx

Hi, Just wanted to say well done! It takes time to get the hang of DFW thing so pace yourself! Looks like you've made some changes...I changed from Sky to NTL because I got a much cheaper tv, phone & broadband package which saved me £15 a month...worth investigating - its all the same TV & they're doing an offer at the moment! Keep up the good work!

Or go to somewhere like https://www.123reg.co.uk, get your own domain name and you'll be able to keep it forever for only £3/year. You're in control of all the passwords etc, and it won't be closed just because you haven't logged in for a bit.

Or ask someone to invite you and get a Gmail account for free.

    Check if he still can!

When I move from BT to Tiscali I just assumed I would keep it. Anyway when I phoned BT up to migrate I asked and the BT man said it shouldn't be a problem.

I wasn't convinced so phoned up again! I was then told I could keep it but only if I paid £1.50 a month!

So I phoned up a 3rd time, all different departments I might add, and was then told by a lovely woman that I could definately keep it and at no cost. She said that once an email address is activated it never dies!

The only problem I didn encounter a few months later was that I couldn't send emails through Outlook with that account. Thats coz you are using their servers but not their ISP so they block it. I can still send emails through the internet based email though! :D
