I'm charged £37.50 a quarter for the 'unlimited evening and weekend plan' which includes the line rental and zero for phone usage with BT. Only other items on bill is discount for having it online and my direct debit payments.0

Yowzas!!
I've just realised on my new quarterly BT bill that I'm now being charged £7.50 for not using my phone enough! It's listed at "BT Caller Display low use charge".
I have my phone line solely for broadband, but Caller Display is invaluable as I only answer if it's somebody I know. Going to have to cancel it now, £7.50 a quarter just isn't worth it for me.
How I wish I could get broadband without a BT line.0 -
On behalf of your F&F, may I say how pleased I am you will be dumping the 1571 'service' and, at the same time, saving yourself £2.50/month.I've just realised on my new quarterly BT bill that I'm now being charged £7.50 for not using my phone enough! Can I suggest you consider investing that money in an ordinary answering machine.Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.0 -
Argh these posts about the £2.50 charge per month for caller display if you have calls with another provider do my head in!
Why is it some people believe they are OWED caller display for nothing??? Fair enough you pay line rental but if you don't pay your calls to that provider... they don't really make anything off it... except the sole responsibility of maintaining the line at the exchange for pennies.
Stop complaining about it and just remove caller display from your account... After all, you took your calls to a different provider to get the cheapest package. Sometimes you have to accept that the package is cheap for a reason. :P.
Rant over, back to my sandwiches! (p.s. It's not made in a sandwich shop so I don't get my mayonaisse for free!)0 -
My calls aren't with another provider, they are with BT, but I'm still being charged for CallerDisplay. Just thought BT could make it clearer that it isn't actually a "free" service.
Still, sorry to have done your head in. Hope you enjoy your sarnies.0 -

My issue wasn't with people like yourself who just don't use their phone line for calls instead just broadband. I think it is unfair to have not notified customers like yourself of this charge.. My gripe is just with people who feel they are owed caller display even though they take their calls to another provider :P. Please don't think that post was aimed at you there are just so many caller display posts they get annoying to read lol.
Sandwich was good...0 -

They do make clear what the conditions are to obtain Privacy at Home at no charge. If you read them it's not exactly onerous to get the caller display portion without any cost to you.0 -

None of my mobile phone providers charge extra for Caller Display, I'm not charged extra for Caller Display on my VoIP lines, in fact several of them there is no monthly cost at all, you only pay for calls made and still get the service, with Caller Display, Call Waiting, 3-Way Calling, Voicemail and more. It's PAC not PAC Code, it's MAC not MAC Code, it's PIN not PIN Number, it's ATM not ATM Machine, it's LCD not LCD Display, it's DVD not DVD disc... It's no one not noone, It's a lot not alot, It's got not gotten... Panini is the plural of panino - there is no S!!(OK my English isn't great, the sciences, maths & IT are my strong points!)0 -
I really don't mind paying 60p a quarter for Caller Display - the lowest cost I've managed for six chargeable calls - it's just frustrating that the main price list doesn't talk about chargeable calls (take a look here: http://www.serviceview.bt.com/list/public/current/Exch_Lines_boo/3410_d0e53.htm#3410-d0e53).
Today, after I'd complained yet again, BT called me and said they would take off the £7.50 charge. This is the third time they have. They said they wouldn't do it again. I think they muttered some sort of apology for their incorrect price list, and a follow-up email said they'd look into it.0
