I'm looking for a cheap notepad or laptop for web browsing. Mainly for the kids to use so they don't keep 'borrowing' mine.
I've had a couple of websites suggested which have small notepads for about £150. They both look okay to me but hope someone may be able to help.

Is there much difference between linux & windows systems for web browsing?
I've been told that some Linux based machines don't support flash player which it would need as most of the kids browsing seems to be Facebook or flash based games.
I've considered a desktop pc . I can probably find an old monitor, keyboard & mouse. Just lacking a desktop to put it on (last one got re-cycled along with the chair)
Any opinions on the links above appreciated - or any other suggestions.
(hope this makes sense. I had hoped to post a bit earlier when the brain was still awake - but couldn't prise the laptop from the kids)

This one is equivalent to the ACER Aspire One and has a 120 GB HDD and Windows XP. All for £168. Add Bluetooth for £2.
That's about as good as it gets for the moment. Are you sure the screen size will be ok for them?
The one you link to on Laptops Direct is £155(in order to get a 12 month warranty) and severely limited in terms of an Operating System, storage space and RAM installed.
With my suggestion they will be able to play any stored music and films to their hearts content and enjoy the full range of usage to which they may have become accustomed.
For a slightly bigger screen, you can pick the up 10" Medion Akoya E1210 for £199. Either from the clearance section of medionshop.co.uk or from the same website as the above.
If you wish to go the PC route, again the Clearance Bargains site has a capable tower unit available for £210. More info here.0 -

Just a note in case anyone comes across this thread in a search.
Don't forget to do your own checking (obvious I know but I made the mistake last year of buying something in Currys only to check on-line later and find it cheaper in Dixons)
Did a search for the Medion netbook and found one £30 cheaper from electrical-deals Also through ebay.
Thanks again to Donnie.0 -
VM - for under £200 you can get a full-size refurb laptop from here:-

I have a dodgy "i" key, so ignore spelling errors due to "i" issues, ...I blame Apple0 -
