Was just wondering!

Hi folks,
Just out of interest, when you apply for a product (credit card for example), how long does the company hold your application details for?
Cheers in advance x

  • Usually 3 months in case you need to appeal the decision. It then gets archived but not used unless you request to see the information as part of a data subject access request :D.

    So six years then?
  • Aw, thanks for that. I was just wondering because I am looking to maybe buy a new car (just want to save a bit more towards deposit first ) and black horse are the finance company. A few years back when I bought my current car I remember being told I couldn't get finance with black horse. Didn't understand why because I'd not had any problems but it turned out that the garage, when inputting my data, had spelt my first name wrong and also transposed the month and day on my date of birth. Although, this was a couple of years ago, I didn't want it to have an affect on this new car.

Do some companies keep applications for 6 years????

  • This should not impact your application. Yes they do keep applications for up to 6 years but it does vary if you have a relationship with the bank then they will just in case it is specifically requested in a DSAR. If however you dont have a relationship with the bank and they don't have a valid reason for keeping your data they don't keep your application.

Great, thank you. As its a different garage this time, fingers crossed they will input correct data and all will be hunky dory. Thanks again x
