EGG and Citibank

Options
I opened a savings account online with EGG a couple of months ago and as far as I remember it was hassle-free.

But today I tried to put more into the account and all I encountered was problems. My info wouldn't save, I was redirected to a service they no longer offer, and after a couple of hours on asnd off when I kept trying I finally withdrew the £100 I had initially invested and sent an email saying I wanted to close my account. By close of business I had not received a reply.

I now plan to put my savings in a Citibank account but am concerned to learn on this site that they are part of the same company as EGG.

Has anyone else had a similar experience with EGG online, or had problems with Citibank?

Egg usually take 2/3 days to reply or action secure messages. Ring them if you're in a hurry.

Been using them for years without much problem. Think account closure they put low down the order of priority as it took a few days last time I closed one. Occassionally get a glitch like the one you've encountered but no more so than any other online bank. Citibank are behind Egg but they are registered separately under the FSCS.
  • I have to say that I have banked online with RBS and First Direct for years and never had such basic problems with them.
  • Sorry about the 2 user names by the way, I am on a different computer but have just signed in properly.

I can understand your frustation, but I must say in Egg's defence that their site works well for a large percentage of the time (for me). I also hold online accounts with HSBC, First Direct, Natwest and Alliance & Leicester and I think of them all Egg and Natwest have been the most reliable and easy to use. Personally I think you just had a bit of bad luck.

They also in general pay a fraction of the interest for instant access accounts
