Help with a Debt Management Company

Hi, this is the first post I've made. My partner consulted a debt management company called "Money Worries" who took all his details and said they could help. We were going to pay £200 a month for 36 months and it all sounded fine. I didn't want to go through with it so we never signed the form however they have now just taken £256 out of his bank account. Have tried to ring the company but have been kept in a queue that never gets beyond "you are now caller 2" having held on for over 15 minutes on a line charging 10p per minute and they are not responding to e-mails. Really worried now as I have read on other sites that they seem to do this kind of thing a lot. How do we get our money back? How can they just take money out of his account without his authority? Help please

  • This may not help but it may be worth changing your bank account so that they can't help themselves or if you've given them your debit card details, then ring the bank, cancel the card.

In the meantime, if you are looking to go via the dmp route, then why not ring a bona fide organisation who will not charge you and offer best advice - CCCS, Payplan, CAB or National Debtline.

Can you hunt out your agreement with "Money worries" and see what it says if you decide not to go ahead - i.e. if there are any penalties.

Also, SPEAK TO YOUR BANK and explain to them that there seems to have been a fraud commited on your account. Explain that you DO NOT authorise a further payment next month (just in case) and that since you did not authorise one this month that as far as you are concerned, your bank owes you £256 - basically, your bank has been swindled, not you!
Would you ask the wolves to look after the sheep?
