porting number to vodafone (problems)

Options
i bought a new contract off the vodafone website and included the codes to port my number. the sim and phone arrived and the same day my existing phone stopped working. (great).

er no.. now i have 2 phones saying sim inactive. i have been on the phone to vodafone for 2 days on and off waiting for the sim to activate. they either
a) carnt help and transfer me or
b) disconnect me because they have run out of ideas (and this is without warning just cut me off)

i seem to be going round in circles the general gist is (i think) that my number must be lost in limbo somewhere. it has left orange because my old sim has become inactive but it hasnt appeared on the vodafone system yet which is strange because it should only take 4 hrs.

anyone have any ideas, i am sick of going through the menus and talking to someone who carnt help. my biggest worry is that they have lost my number.

thanks

matt

This is going to sound really stupid, but it's how I remember it when I moved to Vodafone (or more accurately from Vodafone to Asda - which is just the Vodafone network but cheaper).

After it failed to activate I was eventually told that the phone had to be powered on (obviously) and then receive an incoming call in order to activate it. I know - it sounds illogical, but it worked immediately for me.
  • thanks fwor, i just tried that but i get quick beeps and then number error.
