That would work fine. You can transfer your debt onto a card in your husband's name or even that of Dave down the pub. Be warned though that the debt then solely becomes his responsibility to pay.

Mate she's married to the guy so of course it's the right thing to pass the debt to him - lol :p:p:p

I thought when you got married things became 'ours'.... You know, whats mine is hers and whats hers is hers!

  • Some CC companies wont allow people to transfer different peoples debt around, i know MBNA wont. The way to get round this is to do a money transfer of the card you want to put it on, so the money goes into your bank account from that credit card and using that cash to pay off your existing card. Usually, though, the MT option has an extra 1% handling fee.

How would they know if its your account or not? 1st I knew that MBNA stopped it, a lot on here say they do allow it :confused: Basically when you do a BT it asks for the lender (card name), account number and amount to transfer - not an account name.....

There is no way to find out the name, that's right. But what I meant, which I could have worded better is don't get too chatty and let it slip its going to his card that's where the issue lies.

Ahh yea, so you mean do it online or just use your name if they ask over the phone lol - after all, they don't know! :D

  • It doesn't matter if the bank knows its to pay off your card. As long as your hubby confirms to the credit card provider that he understands that he will be responsible for the lending on the card. If you are considering becoming an additional card holder and transferring the balance yourself then the credit card provider will not accept this - a balance transfer request has to come from the primary card holder.

Barclay card persistantly ask me if I want to transfer a balance - I don't have any debts - they then proceed to ask me if I would like to take on a relative or partners debt anything to sell a balance transfer and get commission!
  • Just thought I would add Halifax, Lloyds (any card associated with lloyds banking group) will allow you to do this. Most credit card providers will allow you to do this - anything to shift the debt over to them so that they can make profit from you with fees and balance shielding etc.
