New vs Established Funds

Mr Peases's previous record over last decade with NS and Jupiter seems to be above average but not exceptional. On the other hand Henderson/New Star have got something to prove so I think they'll be going flat out to make sure this one performs.
These guys realise that if new funds do well it pulls the punters in on existing funds.
I'm not impressed with HL's record on recommendations relating to 'star managers' (well the one's I've followed anyway) - having said that I don't think HL have gone overboard on this one.
I'm undecided at moment. Best longterm opps in Emerging/FE but can't see too much upside there in short term.0 -

Was the reason for the disappointing performance due to the sector doing badly, or the fund manager underperforming the sector/relevant competition ?0 -

Last one I did was Dr Bill Mott with PSigma Income. I think he got his timings badly wrong on banks so IMO it was FM underperformance.0 -
New funds are usually launched when there is retail demand for them. Retail demand is strongest towards the end of bull markets, and so many new funds end up losing clients money. The problem is, small investors are most comfortable investing when markets have already gone up a lot.0

No! Because I also feel the same. As an example they seem to be really pumping INSYNERGY Odey Fund. From their review of this fund manager, you would think he walks on water;)
Crispin Odey may not actually walk on water but by God he comes close. Just Google the name and you will see that he has been hugely successful over a considerable period. The reason that he is not well known to the general public is that his funds have previously only been available to very high worth individuals or institutions. That's not to say that this particular fund will replicate his past performance but I can understand the excitement.0
