Can I take leather boots back for refund not credit note?

Whilst in a shop earlier this week my partner saw a pair leather boots that she liked but they were too tight and didn't fit. She was going to leave it at that point but the sales assistant suggested using a leather spray to stretch them but if it didn't work she could have a credit note upon return.
Needless to say it hasn't worked and unfortunately there's nothing else in the shop I fancy, am I entitled to a refund instead?
Cheers in advance!

Hi
I think it depends on the retailers return policy, which seems quite generous TBH!..
I work in retail and if you returned the boots to me after using a leather spray on them I would not accept them back as they are not in the original condition and probably cannot be resold.
I would check the retailers returns policy. If the boots are faulty then you would get a refund. If not, then a Credit Note as the Sales Assistant says.Just because I disagree with you, doesn't mean I hate you. We need to understand this as a Society

I too think the credit note is very generous, especially if you have sprayed them.0

Are you sure the sales assistant was correct in saying you could have a credit note? It is amazing what sales assistants will say sometimes, without having any idea if they're right or wrong.0 -
As they don't have to give you anything if you buy something in the wrong size, a credit note is generous.Squirrel! If I tell you who I work for, I'm not allowed to help you. If I don't say, then I can help you with questions and fixing products. Regardless, there's still no secret EU law.
