Can I take leather boots back for refund not credit note?

Whilst in a shop earlier this week my partner saw a pair leather boots that she liked but they were too tight and didn't fit. She was going to leave it at that point but the sales assistant suggested using a leather spray to stretch them but if it didn't work she could have a credit note upon return.

Needless to say it hasn't worked and unfortunately there's nothing else in the shop I fancy, am I entitled to a refund instead?

Cheers in advance!

    Hi

I think it depends on the retailers return policy, which seems quite generous TBH!..

I work in retail and if you returned the boots to me after using a leather spray on them I would not accept them back as they are not in the original condition and probably cannot be resold.

I would check the retailers returns policy. If the boots are faulty then you would get a refund. If not, then a Credit Note as the Sales Assistant says.
Just because I disagree with you, doesn't mean I hate you. We need to understand this as a Society

  • I too think the credit note is very generous, especially if you have sprayed them.

Are you sure the sales assistant was correct in saying you could have a credit note? It is amazing what sales assistants will say sometimes, without having any idea if they're right or wrong.

As they don't have to give you anything if you buy something in the wrong size, a credit note is generous.
    Squirrel!
If I tell you who I work for, I'm not allowed to help you. If I don't say, then I can help you with questions and fixing products. Regardless, there's still no secret EU law.
